ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Pashiz (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.39 g, 5 h), DA (Darabjird), AH 68 = AD 687/8. Sasanian style bust to right; behind and before head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah' in Kufic) and MN (in Pahlawi). Rev. Bearded figure standing facing, placing both hands on sword in front of him; to left, name of the mint in Pahlawi and to right, date in Pahlawi; in outer margin, legend in Pahlawi. Cf. Gyselen, type 12 (reverse inner circle legends interchanged and with additional legend in the outer margin). Stephen Album 15 (2013), 104 (described as Gyselen 12 without mentioning the legend in the outer margin of the reverse). Extremely rare. Fine.
